oh buoy!

Just popping in to say "hello!"
We felt a tiny earthquake here in New England yesterday around 7:15pm... it doesn't happen that often, so you can imagine the buzz all over the internet and the news last night.  Pretty funny actually. ;)

Happy Wednesday!

Four Months???

Wow!  I can't believe it's been four months since my last post!
We've been having a fabulous (and tremendously busy) summer... how about you?
Most of my spare time has been spent making jewelry for a local art gallery... some of the stories behind the ladies buying some of my pieces truly make me smile.  One young lady bought a necklace to wear to an upcoming wedding... she was so excited she tweeted it right then and there from the gallery.  I love when I can put a smile on someone's face.
Hope you're having a wonderful summer! :)

Rock Harbor

Rock Harbor - Orleans, MA

Well, I promised more photos of NYC, but I have so many of them I'm still in the process of photoshopping (I have nearly 250 keepers, and I'm going to put them into a book for my family as a souvenir of our trip). I'll show you more NYC photos at a later time. However, I can certainly show you more Cape Cod photos! Today's photos were taken at Rock Harbor in Orleans (on a VERY overcast day).

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

A Beautiful Spring Day in NYC

Battery Park, NYC
I find myself still going over the multitude of photos I took while in NYC!  Here's one I took on a 90F day last week, while strolling around Battery Park (before we headed for the ferry to take us to Liberty and Ellis Islands).  As I complete my photos, I will show you a few more. ;)
Happy Friday!

a little getaway!

Thompson Street, Greenwich Village, NYC
We had a brief getaway in NYC!  We're grateful that such a fabulous city is just a five hour drive from the Cape -- I only wish we visited more often!  And the weather was near 90F almost the entire time we were there.  We walked as a family on average seven miles per day - I LOVED all the exercise!  I have some fun photos to show you; I'm still in the process of downloading and going through them all.  I also went to the Garment District to buy beads for my jewelry business... now that was a REAL treat!  I hope to post about my trip soon...
Happy Tuesday!

Stony Brook Grist Mill and Herring Run

Springtime is a favorite time to visit the Stony Brook Grist Mill site and Herring Run in Brewster on Cape Cod!

This popular spot has been featured on my blogs before... and this time I surprisingly managed to visit when there were no seagulls (the herring weren't running at the time).

I was able to take some sweet shots of this historic place, sans gulls! ;)

This site is a favorite of spring visitors... when children are off for their April vacation, this spot is packed with locals, tourists and their cars (the town often has to hire a policeman to control the resulting traffic jams during vacation week).

This is also a very popular site for wedding photos!

This tree reminds me of something from "Harry Potter"!  It's even more amazing once it has leaves (it's too early here on the Cape for tree leaves just yet).

Happy Thursday!

Child-Friendly Activities and Restaurants on Cape Cod

Being a year-round Cape Codder, and having a somewhat large family, I thought I'd share some of our favorite family activities and child-friendly eateries here on my blog from time to time.

If you've ever been to a restaurant or grocery store here on  the Cape, undoubtedly you've seen those handy little local guides inside the foyers.
One of my absolute favorites is called Kids on the Cape.  I use this when I want to visit new places and attractions outside of my own familiar territory.

One fabulous (and year-round) element of this guide is their list of current and future daily activities for children here on the Cape.  If you click on this link, you will be redirected to their "Event Keeper", a searchable directory of children's activities.  While there, you can also click on links for reminders, or to recommend activities to a friend. Enjoy!

another Cape Cod Summer is just around the corner

When the sun broke through the clouds this afternoon, after a rainy, overcast and raw day, it reminded me that Spring in all its glory will be upon us very soon.

And then... Cape-Cod-Summer here we come! ;)

I can never resist vintage millinery!

Perhaps it's because we had a true haberdasher in the family... I just can't resist vintage millinery!

Whenever I go thrifting or antiquing, the first items I look for are inevitably vintage trims, linens and millinery flowers.  Then I look for vintage rhinestones! ;)

This roll of vintage French ribbon is my latest favorite.  Is it OK to love old trims so much?

When I spot them all color-coordinated, that makes them all the harder to resist!

All the beauties in this post have been listed in my etsy shop.  (The vintage French ribbon on the roll is sold by the yard.)  Perhaps I'll be a real haberdasher some day after I find myself in an "empty nest" (but I don't want to go there yet)!
Happy Monday!

Spring Visitors

Even the wildlife outside my window is happy it's Spring!

"balancing act"

"pensive"

"can't take just one"
(to quote a famous potato chip commercial)

I've heard "Chex Mix" makes friends (even when it's gone stale)! ;)
HAPPY WEEKEND!

Cape Cod Bay in the Spring

What a GORGEOUS day we had today... this sunny Spring day felt more like summer!

When I visited this bayside beach today, I was greeted by some sidewalk-chalk art! Someone (or some people) must have used several boxes of chalk to create this huge spring masterpiece in the parking lot.

It's hard to tell from my photos, but it spelled out "We Love Spring"!

And the gulls love this spring weather, too!

I swoon whenever I see beautiful cedar-clad beach houses like these.

It was nice having the beach to myself for a short time, because before you know it the summer visitors will return and this place will be hoppin'!

If you had a dollar for every street name that started with the word "CAPT" on Cape Cod, you'd be very rich indeed! Happy Friday!

Olde Cape Cod

It's such fun transforming my photos of Cape Cod into sepia tone prints... much like the old postcards of long ago!
A bayside beach on a hot sunny day.

The Cape Cinema in Dennis, Ma.
Another bayside beach at suppertime (when everyone has gone for their fish and chips)!

The beach buoys. ;)
Happy Monday!
